American Substitute Teacher Arrested for Sexual Communication with Minor

Krystal Sims, 30, a substitute teacher, has been arrested and charged with using electronic communication to solicit sexual activity with a minor, according to the Barren County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities allege that Sims contacted a male minor to arrange a sexual encounter. The investigation began after officials discovered Sims initiated communication with the student through Snapchat shortly after starting as his substitute teacher.

According to law enforcement records, the student accepted her friend request, and the two allegedly discussed meeting in Cave City. The minor reportedly recorded a phone conversation on August 22, during which a woman asked if he would be coming to meet her. The recording reportedly transitioned into a video call, where Sims allegedly appeared naked in a shower, exposing her breasts. Several people reportedly confirmed seeing Sims during the video conversation.

During an October interrogation, Sims admitted her voice was on the recording but denied any in-person meeting. She claimed the encounter was intended to allow the student to apologize “for the way he had acted in class.” Sims stated there was no physical contact and that the pair never met outside school. She added that she had refused friend requests from several male students while working as a substitute teacher.

Sims was arrested on October 2 at the Barren County Detention Center and released on a $25,000 bond on October 6. She is set to be prosecuted on October 8 for allegedly "procuring a minor by electronic means," a felony offense that carries significant legal consequences.

The school district where Sims was employed has not been disclosed, and neither Sims’s attorney nor the district has issued a statement.
