Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong remarked that the relationship between Vietnam and Thailand has evolved into one of the most vibrant and effective partnerships within ASEAN over the past fifty years. A landmark moment in their relationship occurred in 2025 when Vietnam and Thailand elevated their engagement to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Officials assert that this upgrade signifies a significant level of political trust and a mutual determination to broaden collaboration across diverse sectors including trade, security, tourism, and infrastructure.
Economic relations stand as a fundamental pillar of this partnership. Presently, Thailand ranks as Vietnam’s largest trading partner in ASEAN, with bilateral trade projected to exceed 22 billion US dollars by 2025. Thai enterprises have heavily invested in Vietnam, focusing on energy, logistics, retail, processing industries, and infrastructure initiatives.
Vietnamese officials have also emphasized the increasing significance of cooperation in supply chains, transport connectivity, and development in the Mekong region. Both nations are positioned strategically to emerge as crucial economic and logistics hubs for mainland Southeast Asia as regional trade and investment continue to expand.
In addition, security and defense collaboration has strengthened markedly in recent years. Authorities from both nations are actively cooperating on issues including cybercrime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other cross-border security challenges impacting the region.
