Thailand and Japan Forge Stronger Educational Partnerships

In a significant meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand and Japan are enhancing their collaboration in educating the youth. Led by Akranan Kankittinant, discussions with the Japanese ambassador focused on expanding learning opportunities and minimizing educational disparities.

The talks emphasized sharing successful practices from both nations. Thailand seeks to emulate Japan’s well-established education system, particularly in developing human resources and preparing students for evolving careers.

A critical issue addressed was the school dropout rate. Thailand is actively working to re-engage young individuals in education and facilitate ongoing learning opportunities. Japan shared effective strategies developed over the past twenty years to tackle this issue.

Among these strategies, Japan promotes the establishment of guidance centers and offers counseling services in schools to enhance students’ mental well-being. These initiatives are essential in helping children navigate the challenges posed by technological advancements and contemporary lifestyles, particularly amidst the rising influence of artificial intelligence and digital learning platforms.

Innovation in education was another focal point. The KOSEN system from Japan, which emphasizes technical and vocational training, was highlighted as a commendable model. It equips students with hands-on skills relevant to high-tech industries.

The dialogue also addressed ways to extend support for marginalized groups. Special measures are being considered for out-of-school children, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. Conversations included transportation, financial aid, and scholarship programs aimed at promoting equal opportunities in education.

A significant aspect of the session was the plea for more scholarship options. Thailand is advocating for Japan to broaden coverage under initiatives like the MEXT scholarship, enabling more students, especially those outside traditional education pathways, to gain international educational experience.

Both nations discussed the potential for teacher and educational staff exchange programs. Thailand expressed interest in sending personnel to Japan for training and internships, facilitating the acquisition of fresh insights and modern educational practices to implement at home.

Officials believe that enhancing cooperation between Thailand and Japan will contribute to building an inclusive and progressive educational framework.
