Music composer Shashwat Sachdev shares insights on a pivotal collaboration with Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer and renowned composer James Newton Howard for the upcoming British crime thriller, Virdee.

Reflecting on this collaboration, Shashwat remarked, “Some partnerships feel like fate revealing its sound. When the intent is genuine, the right individuals naturally emerge. For me, this has been a journey of sincerity, inquisitiveness, and a profound respect for both Hans and James.”

Notably recognized for his remarkable scores in Uri: The Surgical Strike and the recent series The Ba**s of Bollywood*, Shashwat is now creating the title theme for Virdee, which revolves around detective Staz Nair's pursuit of a killer preying on the Asian community in Bradford.

Delving into his creative journey, he expressed, “My sound always embodies the essence of Rajasthan's dust, a touch of Bombay's rain, and a lot of soul. When that spirit interacts with the cinematic realm, genuine magic unfolds. Such moments aren’t pursued; they find you when you're prepared. I've realized that music resides in the space between ego and silence—that's where true enchantment lies.”

The composer described this experience as a profound cross-cultural journey filled with emotion and insights. “From Mumbai to Los Angeles, the heartbeat remains unchanged. This collaboration embodied humility, pride, and soulfulness—a reminder that music is not created, it’s cherished,” he shared.

Describing himself as “a wandering spirit traversing various cultures,” Shashwat noted, “Working with Hans and James opened a beautifully intricate world to me.”

Virdee, adapted by A A Dhand from his own crime novel series set in Bradford, features a predominantly British-Asian cast and delves into themes of identity, justice, and community.

This project marks a significant move for Shashwat Sachdev, integrating his Indian musical roots with a global storytelling approach.

Hans Zimmer, renowned for timeless scores such as Inception and The Dark Knight, has a history of partnering with Indian artists and is also slated to collaborate with A R Rahman on Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic Ramayana.

Through Virdee, Shashwat Sachdev is expanding his international presence, showcasing the growing connection between Indian artistry and global cinema.
