Sean “Diddy” Combs will be in federal custody longer than expected, as updated records indicate a shift in his release date. The music icon, aged 56, who began serving a 50-month sentence related to prostitution charges, is now projected to be freed on June 4, 2028, rather than the earlier anticipated date of May 8, 2028. The reason for this nearly four-week delay remains unspecified by federal authorities.
Conviction and Sentencing Overview
Combs was handed two federal convictions linked to transportation for prostitution in July 2024, leading to a sentence of 50 months in prison by October 2024. He has been in federal custody since September 2024, having initially served time at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn before his transfer to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
Incidents Reported in Custody
In the initial week at Fort Dix, Combs allegedly had homemade alcohol, crafted from Fanta soda, sugar, and apples. Though officials contemplated a transfer due to this matter, no further action was taken.
Combs’ spokesperson has strongly refuted any misconduct, stating that he “has not breached any prison regulations” and highlights his commitment to sobriety and order while incarcerated.
There was also a reported incident where Combs was engaged in a three-way phone conversation, which is against Bureau of Prisons guidelines if an additional party joins midway. His representatives explained this call was with his attorneys and fell within the bounds of client-attorney privilege.
Engagement in Prison Programs and Legal Moves
At FCI Fort Dix, Combs is reportedly involved in a drug-treatment program and provides assistance in the chapel library, according to his team. His legal crew has suggested they plan to appeal the sentence, claiming that Judge Arun Subramanian overstepped during the sentencing process.
Prosecutors had initially pushed for an 11-year sentence, but the jury acquitted Combs of sex-trafficking and racketeering accusations. His defense team advocated for a much shorter duration, approximately 14 months.
Currently, the official release date stands at June 4, 2028, with any future modifications being handled by the Federal Bureau of Prisons on an individual basis. Combs’ ongoing legal struggles might influence the final length of his sentence, yet, for the time being, he will remain incarcerated for the foreseeable future.
