A major new shopping and lifestyle destination is preparing to open in Vancouver as Oakridge Park officially announced May 28, 2026, as the opening date for its highly anticipated retail complex. The project is one of the largest redevelopment developments in Canadian history and is expected to transform the Oakridge area into a major commercial, residential, and cultural hub.

Oakridge Park has been under redevelopment for several years and replaces the former Oakridge Centre shopping mall, which originally opened in 1959. The new project combines luxury retail stores, restaurants, entertainment spaces, offices, residential towers, public parks, and community facilities into one large mixed-use urban development. Developers say the project is designed to create a modern city center connected directly to public transit and public gathering spaces.

Officials confirmed that the retail section of Oakridge Park will begin welcoming visitors on May 28 at 11 a.m. The opening is expected to attract major crowds from across Metro Vancouver and tourists visiting the city. The mall will feature international luxury brands, fashion stores, restaurants, cafes, and lifestyle experiences aimed at creating a premium shopping destination in western Canada.

According to project information, Oakridge Park will include more than 140 retailers and several internationally recognized luxury brands. Reports also mention that the development will feature major dining attractions, including Time Out Market Vancouver, which will bring together local chefs and restaurant concepts under one roof. The project is also expected to include cultural venues, live performance spaces, and art-focused experiences for visitors.

One of the most talked-about features of the redevelopment is its large rooftop public park. The nine-acre green space will include walking paths, playgrounds, fitness areas, gardens, and outdoor event spaces designed for community use. Developers say the park is meant to provide a balance between urban living and public recreation while improving environmental sustainability in the area.

Urban development experts have described Oakridge Park as one of the most ambitious projects ever built in Vancouver outside the downtown core. Analysts believe the opening could significantly increase economic activity in the surrounding area while also raising the profile of the Oakridge neighborhood as a destination for shopping, dining, and residential living. The project is also expected to create jobs in retail, hospitality, and property management sectors.

The redevelopment has also gained attention because of its direct connection to the Canada Line SkyTrain system through Oakridge–41st Avenue Station. City planners have promoted the project as an example of transit-oriented development that combines transportation, housing, and commercial activity in one location.

Construction work on some residential towers and additional sections of the development is expected to continue even after the retail opening. However, the opening of the shopping mall portion marks a major milestone for the project after years of planning and construction. Local businesses and tourism officials are hopeful the new destination will attract both residents and international visitors once operations fully begin.
