Mona Singh is among the actors who have gradually shifted from television to OTT platforms and films, moving away from traditional TV. She recently shared that OTT allows actors to play more nuanced and complex characters, free from the limitations and censorship found on TV.
Mona said, “The shows we watch online could never be shown on TV due to strict censorship. As an actor, you wouldn’t get to portray such complex characters there. I’m happy people have embraced OTT. It’s a great phase for actors, writers, and creators — so many stories to tell, so much more to do.”
Mona began her acting career with the TV show Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin in 2003. She spent a decade doing soaps, variety shows, and reality show hosting before moving to films and web series. Reflecting on her journey, she said, “From Jassi to playing a cop in the web show Mistry, starring in Made in Heaven season 2, and The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, it’s been quite a journey. I didn’t know anyone when I came to Mumbai, so everything that happened feels like a bonus. I’ve always liked challenging myself, and I feel blessed to get such brilliant opportunities on OTT now.”
Recently, Mona was seen in Aryan Khan’s The Ba**ds of Bollywood* on Netflix. She will next appear in Border 2, starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, releasing in theaters on 25 January for Republic Day weekend.
