Mirzapur Rail Tragedy: Four Killed After Crossing Tracks

Post by : Raina Carter

At least four people died in a tragic incident on Wednesday in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh, when they were struck by a passing train while attempting to cross the tracks. The victims had just gotten off the Chopan-Prayagraj Express at Chunar junction and, instead of using the platform side, tried to cut across the lines as the Howrah-Kalka Netaji Express approached from the opposite direction.

Railway officials said the collision occurred after the passengers chose to cross the live tracks rather than wait to disembark safely on the designated side. Emergency services reached the scene quickly, and local police together with railway staff have launched an investigation into what happened.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow for the families of those lost and ordered that relief measures be expedited while ensuring prompt medical care for the injured. The episode lays bare persistent safety challenges at stations and the need for stronger public awareness about the dangers of crossing tracks.

Rail authorities reiterated appeals for commuters to use foot overbridges and to follow station safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents. With millions travelling across India’s rail network every day, vigilance and compliance with safety protocols remain essential.
