Minute Maid to Discontinue Frozen Juice Products in Canada

Post by : Samiksha

The popular Minute Maid line of frozen canned juices — including classics like orange juice, lemonade, pink lemonade and raspberry lemonade — is being discontinued in Canada and the United States, the company has announced, marking the end of a long-standing product category. The decision comes as shifting consumer preferences have led to declining demand for frozen juice concentrates, prompting the owner, The Coca-Cola Company, to exit the frozen can category altogether.

Minute Maid’s frozen juice products have been a nostalgic favourite for generations, often served straight from the freezer during warm months or used in homemade recipes and traditions. The brand was one of the first to popularise frozen orange juice concentrate, a product originally developed to provide year-round access to citrus and vitamin C, helping boost consumption beyond fresh-fruit seasons.

Despite this long history, Coca-Cola said in a statement that it is discontinuing the frozen line in “response to shifting consumer preferences” as shoppers increasingly opt for other formats of juice and beverages. Remaining inventory will be available in stores while supplies last, but the frozen products are expected to be phased out completely by April 2026.

The change reflects broader trends in the juice market. Sales of traditional juice products have changed over recent years, with some consumers favouring fresh-pressed or shelf-stable alternatives. At the same time, citrus production — particularly orange growing — has faced challenges from diseases like citrus greening, affecting crop yields and quality.

For many Canadians, the announcement has stirred nostalgic reactions, as frozen Minute Maid juices have been a fixture in households for decades. In some regions, products like frozen orange juice concentrates also play a role in local food traditions, such as the Newfoundland Christmas slush drink made during the holidays.

While the discontinuation affects what was once a ubiquitous product, Coca-Cola says it will continue focusing on juice and beverage categories that better align with current consumer tastes and market demand.
