Actor Meezaan Jafri, the son of renowned entertainer Jaaved Jaaferi, has shed light on the prevalent misconceptions regarding the lives of star kids in Bollywood. He tackled the widespread belief that children of actors enjoy a straightforward journey in the industry, clarifying that the truth is much more intricate.
“There’s a common notion that star kids have it made. This is simply not true,” Meezaan stated. “While there are certain benefits, like receiving early opportunities, the weight of expectations and past family history can be quite overwhelming. In fact, it might be easier for those entering the industry without such burdens, as they can begin without preconceived notions.”
Meezaan is adamant that every actor, regardless of their lineage, encounters unique challenges. “Everyone has their strengths and struggles. Each individual has their personal journey. Instead of putting blame on others, we should recognize that the road is tough for everyone involved,” he expressed.
He also addressed the phenomenon of groupism within the film sector, pointing out that individuals often have their own networks, and talent agencies typically align with certain production companies. Meezaan noted that these circumstances create both opportunities and obstacles for newcomers, whether they are star kids or not.
Meezaan initiated his film career as an assistant director for the acclaimed Sanjay Leela Bhansali, working on projects such as Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. He made his acting debut in Bhansali’s production Malaal alongside Sharmin Sehgal. Despite the film's lackluster performance at the box office, Meezaan managed to establish his presence with roles in Hungama 2, Yaariyan 2, and The Miranda Brothers.
Currently, he is garnering acclaim for his performance in the romantic comedy-drama De De Pyaar De 2, helmed by Anshul Sharma and produced by T-Series Films and Luv Films. Co-starring Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and R. Madhavan, the film has received mixed reviews but has performed well commercially, amassing ₹61.85 crore domestically.
Meezaan’s insights reveal that having a famous parent does not automatically lead to success; the industry is rife with expectations, pressures, and distinct challenges. His honest take provides a glimpse into the complexities faced by actors navigating the Bollywood landscape, irrespective of their family background.
