Karan Johar Discusses Why Virat Kohli Hasn't Appeared on KWK

Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar's popular talk show, Koffee With Karan, has welcomed numerous celebrities from Bollywood, yet one prominent figure, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli, has never graced its sofa. While his wife, Anushka Sharma, has made multiple appearances, Karan recently disclosed the reason behind Virat's absence.

During a frank conversation with tennis player Sania Mirza on her podcast, Karan addressed the notable lack of cricketers on his show. When Sania prompted him to reveal a guest he has always desired but failed to secure, Karan first mentioned Ranbir Kapoor, stating, “He’s been here before, but for the last three seasons, he has declined my invitation.”

Upon hearing Virat Kohli’s name, Karan candidly admitted he has never extended an invitation to the cricketer. He elaborated, “I have never reached out to Virat. Currently, I'm refraining from inviting any cricketers given the situation with Hardik (Pandya) and (KL) Rahul. I felt that many wouldn’t come, so I simply didn’t approach them.”

Karan's comments reference the infamous 2019 Koffee With Karan episode featuring Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, which became a media storm due to their controversial remarks, resulting in both players being suspended from the Indian team shortly before the ODI series against Australia.

At that time, Karan expressed remorse, feeling a sense of accountability for the ensuing controversy and the impact on the players’ careers. Since then, he has opted to invite only film stars to his show, steering clear of the cricketing world.

As Koffee With Karan continues to make waves each season, audiences remain hopeful for a future episode featuring both Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma sharing the famous couch, although it appears Karan may not extend that invitation anytime soon.
