In Siak regency, Riau, authorities are investigating a female teacher suspected in the tragic death of a student during a school science exhibition involving a 3D-printed rifle. This incident has raised urgent questions about safety standards within the educational system.
Police officials indicated that the teacher was identified due to presumed negligence, allegedly failing to ensure proper safety measures were in place during the unveiling of the experimental device. Investigator Sepuh Ade Irsyam Siregar mentioned that evidence suggests the teacher did not implement necessary precautions.
The unfortunate event transpired on April 8 during a Science Show at the school, where students shared various projects. The demonstration occurred on the school grounds, with several groups of students prepared to display their innovative experiments.
As part of the showcase, the student victim was exhibiting a device named the “Musketeer Gun,” a 3D-printed rifle developed for the project. Eyewitness reports state that the student had requested others to step back prior to the demonstration.
However, during the demonstration, the device malfunctioned and exploded, resulting in fatal injuries to the student. This incident has left the local community in shock and prompted an investigation into the events leading up to the demonstration.
Law enforcement has indicated that the teacher may face legal repercussions under laws concerning negligence resulting in death. Although named a suspect, she remains free as she has been cooperative with the investigative process.
This case underscores the critical need for stringent safety protocols and oversight during school demonstrations, especially when handling potentially hazardous materials or equipment.
