No Parade Yet for World Cup-Winning Indian Women’s Cricket Team

Post by : Mina Carter

In a surprising development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet announced any victory parade or public felicitation for the Indian women’s cricket team, despite their monumental achievement of winning the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup for the first time on Sunday. Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, India defeated South Africa in a thrilling final to claim the historic title, but celebrations with fans appear to be on hold.

BCCI Prioritises ICC Meetings Over Celebrations

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that no victory parade, including an “open bus” roadshow, has been scheduled as of now. Speaking from Mumbai airport, Saikia explained that the board’s top officials are currently occupied with preparations for the ICC meetings in Dubai, scheduled from November 4 to 7. Once they return, plans to honour the team’s triumph will be reviewed.

“Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now,” Saikia stated. “I’m leaving for Dubai to attend the ICC meeting. Several officials are heading there as well, so once we return, we will plan accordingly.”

This means the Indian women’s cricket team may have to wait at least a week before they are felicitated back home for their unprecedented World Cup success.

Asia Cup Trophy Row to Be Discussed in ICC Session

Alongside discussions over scheduling a felicitation ceremony, the BCCI is also preparing to raise another significant issue at the ICC meeting – the controversial withholding of the Asia Cup 2025 trophy.

India had refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman and Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi following their victory in the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup final against Pakistan in Dubai. The decision stemmed from diplomatic tensions and the board’s objection to Naqvi presenting the trophy.

The final, played on September 28, saw India defeat Pakistan by five wickets under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav. However, the Indian team completed their lap of honour without a physical trophy or medals. The BCCI had earlier written to the ACC, demanding the rightful handover of the trophy and medals, but the issue remains unresolved.

“We will take up the Asia Cup trophy matter with the ICC and hopefully get our trophy back with the respect and honour it deserves,” Saikia added, indicating the board’s determination to seek redress during the Dubai meetings.

Fans Await Celebration Plans

The BCCI’s silence on celebrations for the women’s World Cup champions has sparked discussion among fans and experts who believe that such a historic achievement deserves a grand public recognition. As India basks in the glory of its first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup title, the nation awaits news of a formal welcome and honour for the triumphant team.
