A postgraduate medical practitioner in Hyderabad was taken into custody after Telangana’s Excise Special Task Force uncovered an alleged drug operation run from his rented Musheerabad flat, officials said.
Following a tip-off, the STF’s 'B' team carried out a search of Dr. John Paul’s residence and recovered six different high-value narcotics with an estimated street value of around ₹3 lakh. Seized items included OG Kush (26.95g), MDMA (6.21g), LSD (15 sticks), cocaine (1.32g), Gummus (5.80g), and hashish oil (0.008g).
Investigators indicate that Paul, believed to struggle with substance use, became enmeshed in the illegal supply chain to sustain his habit. Authorities say his home was repurposed as a storage point and distribution node for consignments sourced from Delhi and Bengaluru.
Three alleged accomplices — identified as Pramod, Sandeep and Sharath (also known as Saratulu) — remain at large. The STF reported that active enquiries are underway to track them down.
An STF officer commented, "Paul’s flat operated as a central storage and distribution site for identified customers; in return he was permitted to consume the drugs without charge."
The diversity and quantities of drugs recovered point to a well-established supply network, prompting concern about the involvement of professionals in organised narcotics activity in the city.
In a related action, Special Operations Teams disrupted a rave in Madhapur in Rangareddy district, detaining 11 people on suspicion of drug use and distribution. Authorities said they will release more information as investigations continue.
Officials said the case highlights Telangana police’s stepped-up efforts against narcotics, with commitments to bolster surveillance and enforcement across the state.
