Kuala Lumpur, April 14, 2026 — Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd along with its director, Abdul Hamid Shaikh Abdul Razak, has formally sought to shift a high-profile bribery case to the High Court. This case concerns allegations of offering RM500,000 year after year for a duration of 15 years, pertaining to the acquisition of the Kuala Lumpur Tower concession.

On April 1, the application was lodged by their legal team, naming the public prosecutor as the opposing party. The defence contends that the case involves intricate legal and constitutional matters that may exceed what the Sessions Court can adjudicate.

In his supporting affidavit, Abdul Hamid expressed concerns over self-incrimination and possible double jeopardy. He raised the issue that separate charges have been instituted against him personally and against Hydroshoppe, even though both are predicated on identical allegations.

He further posited that transferring this case to the High Court would enable a more precise interpretation of constitutional issues and allow for appeals to higher courts, such as the Federal Court, if required.

The charges stem from an alleged bribery proposition directed toward former Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa to facilitate the acquisition of the KL Tower concession. The purported offence is said to have occurred between July and August 2022, in Putrajaya.

In the most recent court session, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar reported that the High Court is set to hear the transfer application on May 15. Consequently, the Sessions Court has cancelled trial dates previously scheduled for May 7 and 8, awaiting the resolution of this transfer request.

Under the provisions of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, the charges carry substantial penalties, potentially involving imprisonment for up to 20 years or hefty fines. The case remains in the spotlight for its intricate legal facets and prominent figures involved.
