Farah Khan Reflects on Early Marriage Challenges

Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has recently revealed the early struggles she faced in her marriage to Shirish Kunder, noting that their differing personalities often led to disagreements during the initial years together.

In a podcast episode hosted by tennis star Sania Mirza, Farah shared candid insights about her relationship, particularly around the challenges they encountered when she encouraged Shirish to join her at social events.

“At that time, people would disregard him and focus solely on me because of my success. This made him feel uneasy,” Farah explained. She continued, “It’s common for people to spotlight the more successful individual, which was uncomfortable for both of us. Eventually, we agreed that if he wasn’t comfortable attending certain events, it was perfectly okay. His happiness is what matters most to me.”

Farah further emphasized her desire for privacy regarding her personal life, stating, “We’re secure in our marriage and don’t need public displays of affection. Sometimes, I feel those who flaunt their togetherness might be hiding issues.”

The couple first met in the early 2000s when Shirish worked as the editor on her debut film, Main Hoon Na. Since then, they have collaborated on numerous projects including Jaan-E-Mann, Om Shanti Om, and Tees Maar Khan. They married in 2004 and became parents to triplets—Diva, Anya, and Czar—in 2008. Despite their celebrity status, Farah opts not to frequently share images of her family, maintaining a desire for privacy.

After directing her last film, Happy New Year, in 2014, Farah has taken on hosting duties for Celebrity MasterChef and is active on her popular YouTube channel where she shares celebrity cooking moments with chef Dileep.
