Post by : Bianca Hayes

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has unveiled an innovative project, introducing sensory rooms at both Al Satwa and Oud Metha Bus Stations. This initiative is designed to enhance the travel experience for People of Determination, especially focusing on children with autism.

This initiative reflects the RTA's strategic dedication to increasing customer happiness through specialized services that meet the needs of all community members. It also showcases the authority's commitment to driving innovation in public services while maximizing the utility of transportation infrastructures throughout Dubai.

Welcoming Spaces for Comfort and Relaxation

The sensory rooms serve as nurturing and adaptive spaces, thoughtfully crafted to provide a harmonious mix of relaxation and sensory engagement for children with autism. These areas include innovative low-level lighting systems that foster a tranquil environment, along with therapeutic swings designed for physical comfort.

To aid in sensory management, these rooms also encompass audio-visual elements such as soft sounds, natural scenery displays, and vibrant visuals that help alleviate stress and enhance emotional well-being.

Advancing Inclusive Public Transportation in Dubai

This project aligns with Dubai's broader objective of cultivating an inclusive and accessible city for all its residents and guests. By upgrading existing transport hubs into value-added spaces, RTA reaffirms its dedication to social responsibility and innovation within public transport.

The Dubai Autism Center has acknowledged this initiative, awarding the RTA the Autism-Friendly Environment Certificate. This accolade emphasizes the successful application of globally recognized standards in accessibility and inclusive design.

Improving Lives Through Thoughtful Design

With this initiative, RTA deepens its commitment to bettering the lives of People of Determination and their families. This step represents a meaningful advancement toward creating a transportation network that is not just efficient but also compassionate, inclusive, and in line with Dubai’s ongoing sustainability and accessibility ambitions.
