PM Carney Downplays Washington’s Decision To Pause Bilateral Defence Board

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has downplayed concerns after Washington decided to pause a bilateral defence cooperation board involving Canada and the United States. Carney said the overall relationship between the two countries remains strong and stable despite the temporary halt in one area of defence coordination.

Speaking to reporters, Carney emphasized that Canada and the United States continue to maintain close military, economic, and diplomatic ties through multiple channels. He stated that cooperation between the two neighboring countries remains “deep and ongoing” and that the decision to pause the defence board should not be viewed as a major sign of tension between Ottawa and Washington.
