In Sydney River, Cape Breton, police discovered a body in the river on the evening of Friday, June 27. Officers were called to the area around Rose Street after someone reported finding a deceased person in the water.
Officers from the Cape Breton Regional Police responded quickly to the call and located the body in the river.
The area around Rose Street was closed off so investigators could work and collect clues about what happened.
The police are looking at all possible explanations, including accident, foul play, or natural causes.
Forensic experts and the medical examiner have been asked to identify the person and determine the cause of death.
Investigators have asked anyone who was near the river or has security footage taken between Thursday night and Friday evening to come forward with information.
Earlier this year, in late May, Cape Breton police also found possible human remains near Morley Road, later confirmed to belong to Justin MacDonald.
Because both incidents involve bodies near Sydney, police are being especially careful to find any connection. But no link has been confirmed so far.
The identification process may take time; families will be contacted once positive identification is made.
The police continue to gather evidence and ask the public to share any relevant video or photos.
