Canada Passes Law to Fast-Track Major Projects and Eliminate Internal Trade Barriers

Canada has made a big new rule to help the country build important things faster and make it easier for people and businesses in different provinces to work together. This rule is like a super fast lane for big projects—like building highways, pipelines, railways, or clean energy projects. Before, it could take up to five years to get permission to start these kinds of projects. Now, with this new rule, it might only take two years! That means important work can begin sooner and help more people faster.

The rule also helps stop arguments between provinces about what rules to follow. For example, if someone has a job license in one province, this rule makes it easier for them to use that license in another province too. That’s good news for truck drivers, electricians, doctors, and many other workers! It also makes it easier to move goods like food or building materials from one province to another.

The government says this new rule will help Canada's economy grow a lot—by as much as 100 to 200 billion dollars! It’s also a way to make sure Canada doesn’t rely too much on trading with just one country like the United States, especially now that the U.S. has put new taxes (called tariffs) on Canadian products like steel and aluminum.

Another important part of the rule is that provinces and Indigenous communities must agree before any project can start. That means the people who live in those areas get to have a say and be treated fairly.
