The Government of Canada has extended warm greetings to the Sikh community on the occasion of Vaisakhi. In an official statement, Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, recognized the importance of the festival and its deep cultural and spiritual significance.

Vaisakhi marks the historic formation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the late 17th century. The Khalsa represents a community of committed Sikh believers dedicated to values such as equality, courage, and justice. The minister highlighted that this occasion is not only a celebration but also a reminder of the core teachings of Sikhism.

In his message, Miller emphasized the importance of key Sikh values, including respect, integrity, selflessness, and compassion. He noted that these principles continue to guide Sikh communities in their daily lives, both in Canada and around the world.

The statement also recognized the practice of seva, or selfless service, which plays a central role in Sikhism. Through community support, charitable work, and helping those in need, Sikh Canadians contribute significantly to society and support vulnerable groups across the country.

Miller reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all individuals in Canada can freely and safely practise their religion. He highlighted that diversity and inclusion remain core values of the country, and religious freedom is a fundamental right for all citizens.

As celebrations take place across Canada, the minister concluded his message by extending heartfelt wishes to everyone observing the festival, saying, “Vaisakhi diyan lakh lakh vadhaiyan.”

The statement reflects Canada’s recognition of multicultural traditions and its continued support for communities celebrating important cultural and religious occasions.
