Police in Newfoundland and Labrador have charged a 52-year-old man with first-degree murder following the death of a woman in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The accused, Ivan Loder, is from the town of Badger. He appeared in court virtually from Grand Falls-Windsor and has been remanded into custody. A future court date is expected as the legal process continues.
According to police, officers responded to a call for assistance at a home in the Crescent Heights area at around 4:45 a.m. on April 10, 2026. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found a woman deceased inside the residence. Authorities later confirmed that the victim and the accused were known to each other.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, working alongside the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death and gather further evidence.
Police had earlier issued a public advisory asking residents to avoid the area while the situation was being handled. That advisory was lifted later in the day once the scene was secured.
This case comes shortly after another serious incident in the same town earlier in the week, which involved a shooting that left one person dead and another hospitalized. However, police have confirmed that the two incidents are not connected and are being investigated separately.
Authorities have not released additional details about the victim. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the case.
