Arshad Warsi Discusses Nepotism and His Kids' Acting Aspirations

In a revealing discussion, actor Arshad Warsi has addressed the prevalent issue of nepotism in Bollywood. Despite his children's desire to become actors, he firmly believes in meritocracy over leveraging personal contacts to secure opportunities for them. The seasoned actor highlighted that talent, rather than connections, drives success in the Hindi film industry.

Renowned for roles in films like Munna Bhai MBBS, Jolly LLB, and Golmaal, Arshad spoke candidly about his children's dreams. “Indeed, both my son and daughter aspire to act,” he remarked. “My son is currently assisting director Siddharth Anand and has collaborated with Rajkumar Hirani. Naturally, I’m anxious — the competition is fierce these days. It's becoming increasingly difficult to make it; only a few actors emerge successfully from the pool of 150 crore people.”

When questioned about using his influence to aid their endeavors, Arshad was resolute in his stance. “Here, no one can assist anyone — you must carve your own path,” he asserted. “I can't reach out to a director and request them to invest heavily in my children. What reason would anyone have to support my son? Even a simple introduction to a filmmaker could imply I expect them to consider my kids for roles, which I won’t do.”

The actor also remarked that the industry has become significantly more competitive than when he began his career. “It’s not like in the past, where a select few dictated terms. Now, it’s the audience that has the final say. Even star kids must demonstrate their worth; investment depends on delivery of results,” he noted.

His son, Zeke, 21, is pursuing a career as an assistant director under prominent figures in the industry, while his daughter, Zoe, 18, still focuses on her education and expresses interest in acting. Both Arshad and his wife, former VJ Maria Goretti, ensure their children remain shielded from excessive media scrutiny, fostering an independent growth environment.

Arshad’s comments further enrich the ongoing debate surrounding nepotism in Bollywood. While the discourse typically underscores the advantages of film families, his perspective serves as a stark reminder that success is not solely dependent on connections.

Recently seen in Aryan Khan’s web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, where he portrayed a crime lord, Arshad earned accolades for his brief yet powerful performance. This year, he is set to feature in two major projects: Jolly LLB 3, reuniting him with Akshay Kumar, and Bhagawat Chapter One: Raakshas.

Despite his achievements, Arshad emphasizes perseverance and authenticity in the entertainment realm. “Regardless of status, this industry only sustains you if the audience appreciates you,” he stressed. “Talent, integrity, and determination are the true connections that hold significance.”
