Oscar-winner AR Rahman has recently shared insights into the challenges he faced during his youth. In an intimate discussion, he described his experiences of continuous trauma while witnessing his father's relentless efforts to support the family.

Without the means to buy equipment for his first music studio, it was his mother's encouragement that propelled him toward his musical aspirations, despite numerous difficulties. After the loss of his father at age nine, Rahman took on the responsibility of aiding his family.

Much of his early life revolved around music studios, working with seasoned musicians much older than himself. He acknowledged having little time for school or friendships, which differentiated his childhood from that of his peers.

He mentioned, “I spent so much of my childhood in studios with musicians in their 40s and 50s. There was hardly any time for traditional school life or friends. Those experiences molded me, yet I missed out on many typical childhood joys.”

Rahman poignantly recounted his father's financial challenges, highlighting the incredible effort his father put into maintaining their home. “My father juggled three jobs just to keep us afloat. His health deteriorated because of this. We also faced scorn from relatives, which added to our struggles,” he revealed.

He praised his mother, portraying her as a steadfast figure who braved numerous obstacles to raise her children alone. “My mother was incredibly strong and confident. She bore the hardships and protected us, raising us single-handedly,” Rahman expressed.

Reflecting on how these hardships impacted his life and career, he said, “The darker aspects of my childhood took a while to overcome. Yet, they built my resilience and shaped my view of life.”

Currently, AR Rahman is garnering acclaim for his music in Anand L. Rai’s forthcoming film Tere Ishk Mein, featuring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, slated for release on 28 November.

Additionally, Rahman is gearing up for a live concert in Pune at the MCA Stadium on 23 November, where Aamir Khan, Boney Kapoor, Sukhwinder Singh, Chinmayi, and Hariharan will join him.

With both the movie premiere and his live show on the horizon, fans are eagerly awaiting not only his musical talents but also the inspiring story that has shaped his remarkable journey to international acclaim.
