Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for his candid discussions about censorship in Indian film, has recently revealed a shift in his perspective during a conversation with Komal Nahta on his podcast. He expressed how encounters with the censor board altered his previous beliefs.
Anurag mentioned, “My opinions on censorship have evolved significantly. When I approached the censor board for certification of my film, I discovered that the situation was not as dire as I had imagined. I had previously posted critiques about censorship. However, upon meeting the board members, I found them to be quite courteous. They seemed surprised that my film was devoid of violence or offensive language. They even chuckled and questioned my constant advocacy for changes in the system.”
He further elaborated that the censor board was open in sharing their standpoint. “They kindly informed me that they are merely implementing the rules and guidelines assigned to them. For any alterations to occur in those rules, the filmmakers will need to unite and advocate for the necessary changes,” he noted.
While he did not specify which film he referred to, his recent directorial venture, Nishaanchi, featuring Aaishvary Thackeray, Vedika Pinto, and Monika Panwar, premiered on September 19.
