Zimbabwe Cricket has announced that Australia will visit Zimbabwe in September for a three-match ODI series. This is Australia’s first ODI tour to Zimbabwe in more than ten years. The last time both teams played ODIs in Zimbabwe was during a triangular series in August and September 2014, which also included South Africa.
The first match of the series will be played on September 15, and the second and third matches will take place on September 18 and September 20. All matches will be held at Harare Sports Club. This series is important for Zimbabwe as they prepare for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which they will co-host with South Africa and Namibia.
Givemore Makoni, Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket, said this tour comes at an important time for the team. He said, “We are happy to welcome Australia back to Zimbabwe. This ODI series will be competitive and exciting. Matches like these help our team grow and prepare for big tournaments like the ICC World Cup 2027. It is also a great chance for our fans to watch top international cricket at home. We hope for strong support at Harare Sports Club.”
Zimbabwe has recently challenged Australia in international cricket. Earlier this year, in February during the T20 World Cup, Zimbabwe defeated Australia by 23 runs, which helped Australia exit the group stage. Australia’s 50-over team also lost to Zimbabwe in Townsville in September 2022 by three wickets in the last match of the series.
Before Australia’s ODI tour, Zimbabwe will host India for three T20 matches and then travel to India in January 2027 for three ODIs. This tour is important for both teams to practice and prepare for future international tournaments.
