The Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S) Initiative, spearheaded by Masdar, has proudly wrapped up its first-ever Mentorship Initiative. This innovative programme aims to inspire and equip young individuals dedicated to fostering a sustainable future. Over a duration of 20 weeks, the initiative paired aspiring leaders with seasoned professionals to cultivate their skills and refine their visions for making a real impact in sustainable development.

A cohort of 25 young leaders from 11 diverse nations participated in this initiative, connecting with mentors from 14 esteemed organizations, including governmental entities, leading corporations, and renowned universities. The programme aimed to deepen the participants' understanding of sustainability challenges and prepare them to advocate for meaningful change within their communities.

Structured around regular one-on-one meetings, mentors and mentees exchanged valuable insights, learned from practical experiences, and crafted comprehensive career strategies. These collaborative sessions empowered participants with essential skills in innovation, leadership, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development planning. At the end of the programme, each mentee emerged with a refined vision of their future and actionable steps toward their aspirations.

Dr. Lamya Fawwaz, Executive Director of Brand & Strategic Initiatives at Masdar, underscored the programme's objective. She emphasized its role in shaping young leaders who can approach sustainability challenges with determination and knowledge. According to her, the Y4S Mentorship Initiative not only provides guidance but also facilitates access to key decision-makers and resources essential for navigating global sustainability challenges.

Dana Alkaabi, a participant, expressed how the programme significantly shaped her career outlook. She noted that it clarified her path and enhanced her self-assurance, urging her to forge ahead in her sustainability journey.

With participants hailing from a wide array of nations such as the UAE, Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, the USA, Brazil, Yemen, India, Kazakhstan, and Syria, the programme's diversity enriched discussions and fostered cultural exchange.

The mentoring network included notable entities like Masdar, Siemens Energy, UAE Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, GE Vernova, and many others, ensuring mentees received superior insights and mentorship.

The initiative also made strides in gender equity, featuring a composition of 64% female mentees and 60% female mentors, showcasing a commitment to promoting equal leadership roles in sustainability.

As the first cycle of the Y4S Mentorship Programme concludes, Masdar is dedicated to nurturing a network of young leaders poised to advocate for a greener, sustainable future. Plans are underway to expand offerings and engage more youth eager to contribute to worldwide environmental advancements.
