Virat Kohli has reclaimed the top position in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings for the first time in over three years. His remarkable performance with the bat has once again catapulted him to No.1 following a match-winning innings against New Zealand.

In the first of three ODIs against New Zealand in Vadodara, Kohli showcased his brilliance by scoring an impressive 93 off 91 balls, a pivotal contribution to India’s victory that allowed him to dethrone his teammate Rohit Sharma.

This marks the 11th occasion in Kohli’s illustrious career that he has achieved the top ODI batting ranking. First reaching the pinnacle in October 2013, he has now accumulated a remarkable 825 days at the No.1 spot, the highest by any Indian player. The overall record is held by West Indies legend Viv Richards, who topped the rankings for 2,306 days.

Kohli's resurgence comes after a challenging period in ODI cricket where he suffered two consecutive ducks during a series against Australia last October. He rebounded strongly with a splendid 74 in Sydney and maintained his form with scores of 135, 102, and an unbeaten 65 in the ODI series against South Africa.

Despite his triumphant comeback, Kohli faces fierce competition at the top. New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell is just one rating point behind him, having scored 84 in the series opener. Mitchell’s rise to second place has pushed Rohit Sharma down to third, trailing Kohli by 10 points.

In other notable changes within the ODI rankings, K.L. Rahul has ascended to 11th, while Devon Conway has advanced three spots to 29th among the batters. On the bowling front, Mohammed Siraj climbed five places to 15th, and Kyle Jamieson made a significant rise of 27 spots, landing in 69th.

In updates from the ICC Men’s Test rankings, Australia’s Travis Head and Steve Smith have moved up to third and fourth respectively after their centuries in the final Ashes Test held in Sydney. England’s Joe Root remains the leader in the Test batting rankings, with Harry Brook in second place. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc surged from ninth to third in the bowling rankings after his pivotal performances during the Ashes series.
