Vietnamese PM Talks Worker Welfare and Productivity at Union Congress

Vietnam's Prime Minister Le Minh Hung engaged in a comprehensive dialogue with delegates at the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, emphasizing labor productivity, worker welfare, housing, healthcare, and the impact of digital transformation. The gathering was hosted at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, uniting government officials, trade union leaders, workers, and industry representatives.

Under the theme “Vietnam Trade Union Supports the Government in Enhancing Labor Productivity and Realizing Double-Digit Growth Objectives,” the session invited delegates to discuss real-world issues that affect workers in various sectors, leading to proposed solutions aimed at enhancing the national workforce and fostering overall economic growth.

Union leaders asserted that the enhancement of labor productivity is a critical national goal. They pointed out the necessity for ongoing skills development, lifelong educational opportunities, vocational training, and the integration of advanced technologies as essential to help workers navigate the rapidly evolving labor market and digital landscape.

Numerous representatives voiced concerns over wages and living conditions, highlighting that many workers struggle financially, despite the robust economic growth in Vietnam. There were calls for improved wage regulations, expanded welfare initiatives, affordable housing, childcare services, healthcare accessibility, and strengthened labor laws to secure stable livelihoods for workers.

Housing was recognized as a top concern during discussions. Delegates suggested scaling up social housing projects, enhancing long-term rental availability near industrial zones, and upgrading infrastructure in worker communities. They contended that secure and reasonably priced housing is vital for sustaining a productive workforce.

The health of workers and workplace safety were significant focal points as well. Trade union delegates urged for bolstered occupational health programs, better food safety protocols, easier access to healthcare, and enhanced mental health support. They emphasized that healthy workers are key to sustainable productivity and economic growth.

The dialogue also shed light on the increasing significance of digital transformation and artificial intelligence within the workplace. Delegates advocated for wider digital literacy training, intensified investment in technology, and stronger collaboration between trade unions and tech firms. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung reiterated the government's dedication to uplifting worker conditions, enhancing labor rights, and fostering opportunities that align with Vietnam's long-term developmental strategies.
