In a heartbreaking incident, a 53-year-old cleaner at the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) Sports Bowl in Tanjong Malim passed away after a sudden heart attack, as confirmed by police on Tuesday. Authorities clarified that there were no signs of foul play in this unfortunate event.
According to Muallim district police chief Khalid Mohamad, officers responded to a report via the NG999 emergency service at 1.57am. A rapid response team was dispatched, arriving at the scene where Ministry of Health and Fire and Rescue Department personnel were already present. The cleaner was discovered unconscious in a utility room.
Efforts to revive him included cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for around 15 minutes. Sadly, he was declared dead at 2.23am. Preliminary investigations showed no visible injuries or indications of criminal involvement, leading to his body being transferred to Slim River Hospital for a post-mortem.
The autopsy later confirmed sudden cardiac arrest as the cause of death, and the case is now officially labeled a sudden death. Police have appealed for the public to refrain from speculation and to honor the privacy of the family. Previously, UPSI Sports Bowl manager Dzulkarnain Sapian disclosed that the deceased, identified as Mohd Radzi Ariffin, had mentioned a headache before the incident and was found after his wife initiated a search when he failed to return home.
