Terrorist Hideout Discovered in Kishtwar Mountains

Indian security forces have recently located a heavily fortified terrorist bunker in the rugged terrains of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, utilized by the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). Perched at a staggering height of approximately 12,000 feet, this concealed hideout posed a significant challenge for survival due to the harsh winter conditions.

The bunker, which remained hidden for several months, exhibited a Kargil-style architecture with sturdy stone walls and multiple access points, designed to endure gunfire and other military operations.

Inside, security personnel uncovered ample evidence indicating the terrorists had meticulously stocked supplies for an extended winter. Among the recovered items were about 50 packets of instant noodles, 20 kilograms of premium basmati rice, fresh produce like potatoes and tomatoes, grains, cooking gas cylinders, dry firewood, and an extensive assortment of spices, ensuring provisions for many months.

Authorities suspect the hideout was utilized by a senior JeM commander, Saifullah, along with his second-in-command, Adil. The strategic location and robust construction suggest a well-laid plan alongside significant logistical backing.

On Sunday, as troops advanced towards the bunker, the militants launched grenades in a bid to deter them, resulting in injuries to seven soldiers; among them, Havildar Gajendra Singh succumbed to injuries sustained during the skirmish, exemplifying the sacrifices made in the line of duty.

The discovery of the bunker sheds light on an underlying local support network. Security agencies contend that constructing and supplying such a fortified hideout in a remote location would necessitate assistance from nearby residents. Consequently, four locals have been detained for investigation.

The ongoing anti-terror operation, dubbed Operation Trashi-I, has now entered its third day, with security forces diligently searching mountainous terrains and forested regions in pursuit of the terrorists.

This operation follows an earlier counter-terror initiative commenced last December, targeting approximately thirty individuals known to be hiding within the forests of the Jammu region.

As Republic Day approaches, security protocols have been ramped up further. Intelligence reports have cautioned about possible attempts from cross-border handlers to facilitate the infiltration of more terrorists into the area. Authorities emphasize that these elevated measures are vital to guarantee public safety and sustain peaceful national celebrations.

The revelation of this high-altitude bunker is regarded as a significant triumph for security forces and a substantial blow to terrorist factions active in the remote mountain sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
