The United Nations has made a strong appeal for the immediate activation of diplomatic efforts to halt the ongoing violence and tackle the lingering issues stipulated in Security Council Resolution 1701. This call arises as concerns escalate over the safety of civilians and the worsening humanitarian situation.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric noted in a recent press briefing that the UN is ready to collaborate with all parties to instigate discussions and encourage de-escalation. He highlighted the critical need for a ceasefire.

Leading the efforts on the ground is Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, who is persistently engaging with various stakeholders to ensure adherence to the resolution. Her primary objective remains securing a lasting ceasefire and devising a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

Despite the persistent tensions, UN peacekeeping forces are actively carrying out their missions. Their responsibilities include preventing violence, safeguarding civilians, and guaranteeing the flow of humanitarian assistance even under difficult circumstances.

Dujarric stressed the necessity of protecting UN personnel and ensuring humanitarian efforts are respected. He pointed out that peacekeepers and aid workers must operate without facing any threats or disruption.

He also reiterated the urgent need for all involved parties to commit to civilian protection, allowing unhindered access for humanitarian support and gathering financial resources for those impacted by the crisis.

The UN’s renewed appeal highlights the urgent requirement for immediate actions aimed at stabilizing the situation while emphasizing humanitarian priorities and diplomatic dialogues.
