Zelensky’s 20-Point Plan: Economic Zones and Troop Moves to End War

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has introduced a revised 20-point peace plan aimed at creating a path to end the ongoing conflict with Russia. This updated proposal addresses some of the key demands from Moscow while seeking strong security guarantees from the US, NATO, and European partners to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty.

One of the most significant aspects of the plan involves the potential withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from parts of the eastern Donbas region, a key demand by Russia in earlier negotiations. However, rather than a simple military pullout, the plan presents two possible frameworks for the region: the creation of a free economic zone or the establishment of a demilitarized zone. Both options are intended to reduce tensions and allow for economic cooperation without compromising Ukraine’s security.

A particularly sensitive point in the proposal involves the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is currently under Russian control. The plan suggests establishing a special economic zone around the facility to help reduce security risks and prevent potential nuclear hazards.
