UAE Delivers Additional Relief to Flood-Stricken Sri Lanka

Post by : Bianca Hayes

In response to the ongoing crisis in Ditwah, the UAE has dispatched its seventh humanitarian aid flight to Sri Lanka, addressing the dire situation following catastrophic floods and landslides. This latest flight includes essential food supplies, shelter gear, and other vital materials, raising the total assistance to an impressive 89 tonnes.

A comprehensive emergency response team from the UAE is actively coordinating on the ground, featuring personnel from the Joint Operations Command, the UAE Aid Agency, Emirates Red Crescent Authority, and the UAE Search & Rescue Team, which operates under the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. These teams are diligently working to support affected families and stabilize the most severely impacted areas.

Rescue operations are underway, with the UAE Search & Rescue Team reporting the recovery of 18 bodies of those lost to the floods. They have also offered immediate medical care to eight individuals who have been injured or displaced due to the disaster. The ongoing relief efforts reflect the increasing necessity for support as the floods continue to disrupt lives, devastate homes, and hinder access to essential services.

With further aircraft on standby if needed, the UAE’s humanitarian missions aim to ensure that food, shelter, and medical aid effectively reach families grappling with the aftermath of one of the region’s most severe weather challenges this season.
