The Trump administration has revealed the establishment of a $1.7 billion “Anti-Weaponisation Fund” intended to provide financial relief to individuals who feel they were subjected to unjust investigations or legal actions for political motives.
Reportedly, this fund is part of a legal agreement stemming from Trump’s lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding the unauthorized disclosure of his tax filings. The total pool for the fund amounts to $1.776 billion.
This program will enable individuals claiming they were targeted by government entities or politically driven inquiries to request compensation. Cases from investigations that took place during former President Joe Biden’s tenure are expected to be included.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized that this initiative aims to create a legal avenue for those who believe they are victims of “lawfare” and the political misuse of governmental power.
“The apparatus of government must never be used as a weapon against any American,” Blanche stated. He reiterated that the Department of Justice seeks to amend past injustices while working to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The announcement has ignited a political firestorm in the U.S., with supporters viewing it as a move toward accountability, whereas critics are likely to raise concerns over the compensation distribution process.
