Beloved Young Nala from Broadway, Imani Smith, Passes Away in Tragic Incident

Imani Smith, celebrated for her portrayal of Young Nala in Disney’s extraordinary Broadway show, The Lion King, has sadly died following an alleged homicide, as stated by law enforcement and reports from Deadline. According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, Smith succumbed to injuries sustained from a stabbing on December 21 in Edison, New Jersey.

Emergency services responded to a distress call, discovering Smith with stab wounds. She was swiftly transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she was later declared dead.

In relation to Smith’s tragic passing, her boyfriend, Jordan D. Jackson-Small, has been apprehended without resistance and now faces charges including first-degree murder, along with additional accusations of child endangerment and unlawful possession of weapons. Authorities noted that Smith and Jackson-Small were acquainted before this incident, highlighting that it was not a random attack.

Kira Helper, Smith’s aunt, expressed her sorrow on a GoFundMe page established to aid the grieving family. “Imani had her whole life ahead of her. She was a vivacious, loving, and fiercely talented individual. A true performer, her portrayal of Young Nala in The Lion King exemplified the joy and creativity she brought to life,” Helper stated.

The GoFundMe effort aims to collect $55,000 to support Smith’s parents, Monique Rance-Helper and Rawni Helper. Imani Smith leaves behind her three-year-old son, two younger siblings, and her parents.

The community is grieving the loss of a bright star whose vibrant journey was tragically curtailed.
