The Raja Saab's Box Office Woes: Prabhas’ Film Struggles to Surpass ₹200 Crore

Post by : Mina Carter

The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas, has emerged as one of the most disappointing box office entries recently. Initially launching with a staggering ₹100 crore in worldwide collections, the film's initial zeal faded swiftly, only managing to reach a global total of ₹200 crore after 10 days—this marks the slowest performance for any film featuring Prabhas, especially following the success of the Baahubali series.

Anticipation was high for the film, with hopes it would perform well in theaters. However, it struggled to maintain the interest of audiences and did not capitalize on the lucrative Sankranti holiday period. In its second weekend, the domestic box office saw a sharp decline, with only ₹9 crore net this time, representing a staggering drop of over 90% from its inaugural weekend. Presently, its overall domestic collections amount to ₹139.25 crore net (₹167 crore gross).

On the international circuit, the film saw moderate performance, grossing around $4 million primarily due to its strong opening in the United States. Consequently, the worldwide total hovers around ₹202 crore after a week in theaters.

When compared to Prabhas’ earlier box office failures like Adipurush and Saaho, which reached ₹200 crore within a mere two days, the sluggish pace of The Raja Saab is particularly noteworthy, taking five times longer to hit the same mark—a sign of weaker audience reception. Unlike Adipurush and Saaho, which eventually grossed between ₹390-430 crore, The Raja Saab appears headed for much lower final earnings.

With a hefty production budget estimated at around ₹400 crore, the film is far from breaking even and is set to incur serious financial losses.

Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab was anticipated as Prabhas’ return to the family entertainer genre after focusing predominantly on action films. The ensemble cast includes names like Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani, and Zarina Wahab. Unfortunately, despite the high expectations and a star-studded cast, the film has received largely negative responses, further diminishing its box office performance and leading to its status as a major commercial failure.
