Anutin Charnvirakul has initiated comprehensive preparations for the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, taking place in Bangkok from October 12 to 18, 2026. The Thai government anticipates that this pivotal international gathering will significantly enhance the nation’s economy, tourism sector, and global reputation, while drawing thousands of influential delegates to the capital.
The inaugural meeting of the National Committee for event preparation was conducted at Government House. During the session, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the IMF-World Bank annual gathering, comparing it to the “Olympics of finance and fiscal strategy.” This marks the second time Thailand has been selected as the host, placing it among only three nations globally to have this distinction twice. Officials indicated that this choice signals burgeoning international trust in Thailand’s economic and diplomatic stature.
The event is projected to draw over 15,000 attendees from 189 nations, including government leaders, central bank governors, financial specialists, investors, business executives, and representatives from international media. Major sessions will unfold at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, supplemented by nearly 1,000 smaller meetings and ancillary events across the city. Authorities predict the gathering will ignite considerable economic activity and elevate demand for local hotels, dining, transport, and tourism services.
Prime Minister Anutin articulated that organizing the gathering goes beyond the logistics of a global conference; it is also a platform to showcase Thailand’s rich culture, innovation, and national identity to the world. Local textiles, products, and sustainable design themes will be woven into the event to uplift Thai businesses and empower local entrepreneurs. Furthermore, the summit plans to adhere to environmentally sustainable “Green Meeting” standards, utilizing recyclable materials and eco-friendly operations.
The Thai government has authorized the establishment of three dedicated subcommittees to oversee diverse operational aspects of the event. These committees will ensure effective management of conference activities, ceremonial functions, security, traffic, and public health protocols. The Prime Minister underscored the necessity for stringent security measures to guarantee the safety of all international guests and participants next year.
Officials also unveiled the summit’s official theme: “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience.” This theme encapsulates Thailand’s aspirations for sustainable economic progress and honors the legacy of the late Bhumibol Adulyadej, coinciding with the celebration of his 100th birth anniversary next year. Anticipated discussions will delve into topics such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, climate change, demographic evolution, and shifts in global economy and geopolitics.
Government representatives believe that the IMF-World Bank meetings will bolster Thailand’s international standing and forge enduring economic prospects. The Prime Minister called upon all sectors, including businesses, volunteers, public bodies, and citizens, to collaboratively embrace global visitors and demonstrate Thailand’s renowned hospitality and preparedness. Authorities project this event as a vital opportunity to amplify investor confidence and sustain long-term tourism and economic development in the nation.
