Tragic Fire Claims Life of Telangana Student in Germany

What should have been a joyful homecoming for the Sankranti festival has turned into a heartbreaking tragedy for a family in Telangana. Hruthik Reddy, a 25-year-old student hailing from Malkapur village in Jangaon district, tragically lost his life in a fire incident in Germany on New Year's Day.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night when a significant fire erupted in the Berlin apartment where Hruthik was residing. As flames engulfed the property and heavy smoke overwhelmed the building, Hruthik made a desperate attempt to flee from an upper floor. In the ensuing chaos, he jumped from a height, sustaining critical head injuries. Despite being swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, medical personnel were unable to save him, and he succumbed to his injuries.

Hruthik journeyed to Germany in June 2023 to pursue a Master’s degree in Magdeburg following his engineering graduation from Vaagdevi College of Engineering in 2022. He chose not to return home during the Dasara festival, looking forward instead to celebrating Sankranti with his family in the second week of January.

The sorrow of his family, friends, and community is profound as they grapple with this unexpected loss. His family has reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Germany to expedite the formalities for repatriating his remains to India for the final rites.

German authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the fire's cause.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the safety challenges faced by Indian students abroad, echoing similar recent tragedies, including the loss of a 24-year-old woman from the same district in a house fire in the United States.
