Stefon Diggs Accused of Strangulation in Chef Payment Dispute

Stefon Diggs, the prominent wide receiver for the New England Patriots, is in hot water after being charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault concerning a conflict with his previous private chef.

These allegations surfaced during a court session on Tuesday in Dedham, Massachusetts. Records indicate that the dispute reportedly arose in late November about payment for services rendered at Diggs’ residence.

According to police documentation, the chef claimed that Diggs entered her room during her employment and became irate when discussing unpaid wages. She reported that he hit her in the face and subsequently restrained her from behind, causing her to struggle for breath. The woman recounted her fear of possibly losing consciousness.

Additionally, the police report indicates that Diggs allegedly threw her onto a bed while dismissing her accusations regarding the unpaid wages. Following this incident, she quit her job and vacated the Dedham residence but returned in early December to retrieve her items. During this return, she claimed she was informed that she needed to sign a non-disclosure agreement to receive her payment, which she refused.

Though initially reluctant to file charges, the chef eventually decided to pursue a criminal complaint, which resulted in police taking action against Diggs. His arraignment is set for January 23.

Diggs’ attorney, David Meier, categorically denied the allegations, labelling them as false and unproven, asserting that they stem from an unresolved financial disagreement. Meier stated that the incident described did not occur and reiterated Diggs' innocence.

The New England Patriots released a brief statement expressing their support for Diggs, affirming their commitment to him as the situation evolves.

At 32, Diggs is recognized as one of the NFL’s elite wide receivers, achieving six consecutive seasons with over 1,000 yards from 2018 to 2023 while with Minnesota and Buffalo. Following a brief stint in Houston, he signed a lucrative three-year deal worth $69 million with New England, becoming a vital player for quarterback Drake Maye.

In spite of his sporting achievements and contribution to the Patriots’ success in reclaiming the AFC East title, Diggs has had previous off-field incidents that raised eyebrows. Notably, earlier this year, a social media video showed him passing a questionable pink substance to women on a boat, although no charges stemmed from that situation.

As the legal proceedings progress, Diggs’ standing with the Patriots and his prospects for the postseason may come under greater examination.
