On April 6, Sri Lanka will officially launch its “National QR Payment Promotion Program”, a pivotal move towards a fully cashless economy. This initiative will be inaugurated under the guidance of Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The program will waive all transaction fees for LankaQR payments up to Rs. 5,000 for merchants, aimed at facilitating small business growth by enabling cost-free digital transactions.
With a robust digital financial framework in place, a significant portion of Sri Lanka's population has access to banking services. Nevertheless, the rate of digital payments is still low, which has prompted the government to take strategic actions to foster higher usage.
Additionally, the initiative will feature incentives, including raffle draws for both users and merchants and a comprehensive national marketing campaign. Officials express that this campaign aspires to develop a secure, swift, and all-encompassing digital payment landscape throughout the nation.
