Space42 is advancing the UAE's stature in the international space technology arena by developing rigorous local capabilities in satellite manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and Earth observation technologies.
In an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during the 'Make it in the Emirates 2026' event, Hasan Al Hosani highlighted the company’s mission to turn the UAE's ambitious space initiatives into robust industrial, operational, and sovereign capacities.
Al Hosani elaborated on Space42's creation of a comprehensive space ecosystem that encompasses the design, assembly, integration, testing, and operation of advanced space technologies in the UAE. The integration of artificial intelligence is particularly pivotal for translating satellite data into actionable insights that can benefit governments, enterprises, and key sectors.
He underlined the significance of the Foresight constellation project, noting its alignment with Space42’s long-term vision to localize critical components of the space technology value chain in the UAE, including the assembly, integration, and testing of advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites.
Additionally, Al Hosani mentioned the inauguration of Space42 Space Systems in Abu Dhabi, the region's inaugural Earth observation satellite Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) facility.
The launch of Foresight-3, Foresight-4, and Foresight-5 represents a significant achievement for the UAE space landscape, being the first SAR satellites integrated and tested within the country, symbolizing a shift from knowledge transfer to tangible industrial and technological prowess.
These initiatives are instrumental in equipping the UAE with advanced national expertise in Earth observation technologies while bolstering sovereign capabilities in the space domain.
Discussing localization, Al Hosani stated that Space42 views it as a long-term strategy essential for establishing sustainable industrial expertise and production capabilities across the full value chain.
The company is committed to cultivating local talent in satellite design, development, and operations, thereby fostering Emirati technical skills and enhancing partnerships with industrial players, government agencies, and private firms.
Al Hosani further explained that artificial intelligence is integral to Space42’s operations, facilitated by its GIQ geospatial intelligence platform, which gathers and analyzes geospatial data from satellites, high-altitude platforms, and terrestrial sensors.
These AI-driven technologies are applicable in disaster management, infrastructure oversight, urban planning, environmental monitoring, and security initiatives.
The enhanced capabilities promote quicker and more precise decision-making, operational efficiency, and bolster the UAE's status as a regional center for Earth observation technology development and export.
