Strengthening Ties: South Korea and Thailand Discuss Key Cooperation

In a pivotal dialogue, Anutin Charnvirakul engaged in a phone call with Lee Jae Myung, aimed at solidifying the relationship between Thailand and South Korea. Lee congratulated Anutin on his recent appointment, underscoring Thailand's role as a vital partner.

The conversation covered expediting talks regarding the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which seeks to advance trade, investment, and economic stability in light of global supply chain challenges. Thailand is hopeful for a swift conclusion, viewing the agreement as crucial for enduring economic ties.

The leaders also prioritized enhancing efforts to thwart online scams and cybercrime. Their nations are actively collaborating via projects like the Thailand–Korea Breaking Chains initiative, aiming to improve training and technology aimed at curbing digital fraud and safeguarding citizens.

Additionally, the dialogue highlighted the importance of cultural connections, including collaboration in tourism and the creative industries. They acknowledged the rising trend in cultural exchanges and pledged to deepen partnerships across these sectors. The Thai Prime Minister extended an invitation to the South Korean President for an official visit during the next ASEAN Summit, where discussions on further agreements, including CEPA, are anticipated.
