Sonia Gandhi Hospitalized in Delhi After Asthma Exacerbation

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, 79, was admitted to a hospital in Delhi on Monday night due to mild respiratory complications. Authorities at the hospital confirmed that this was primarily a precautionary measure, given her long-standing issues with chronic cough and bronchial asthma.

Medical professionals pointed out that the recent drop in temperature and elevated pollution levels in Delhi have contributed to a slight worsening of her asthma. She has been put on antibiotics and supportive treatments, and she is reportedly doing well.

Hospital representatives mentioned that Gandhi is under the vigilant care of a chest specialist. “Her health is stable, and she is being monitored closely. Doctors will decide on her discharge based on her recovery, which is anticipated within a day or two,” stated the chairman of the hospital.

This current hospitalization follows earlier health issues. In June 2025, Gandhi faced hospitalization due to a severe stomach infection and was discharged after a four-day treatment period. That same month, a routine health check-up at a Shimla facility indicated she was in good shape.

Authorities have stressed that Gandhi's hospital visit is routine and precautionary, designed to safeguard her health given her medical history. Family and party members have been updated, and hospital personnel have reassured that there is no immediate cause for alarm.

Gandhi is receiving thorough care and is expected to recover fully while remaining in observation. Healthcare staff will keep a close watch on her until she is ready for discharge.
