During a pivotal discussion at the University of Cambridge, Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan emphasized the necessity for enhanced collaboration, inventive solutions, and actionable steps for climate change.

Taking place at Robinson College as part of the Sustainability Leadership Alumni Insight Sharing Day, she was in dialogue with Lindsay Hooper, the CEO of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, exploring the essence of impactful climate leadership and the path forward for sustainability.

Sheikha Shamma outlined the critical need to expedite climate solutions not only in the UAE but also throughout the broader region. She advocated for swift expansion of current initiatives and the removal of barriers hindering innovation, which are vital for achieving long-term sustainability objectives.

The Sheikha highlighted that a more interconnected sustainability ecosystem is essential, where environmental practices are thoroughly woven into the fabric of organizations instead of merely treated as checklists.

Speaking on global collaboration, she asserted that despite increasing divides, countries and organizations ought to unite. Each individual, she stressed, has a duty to forge a better world for future generations.

Emphasizing individual contributions, she remarked that climate leadership extends beyond those directly involved in environmental organizations. Professionals from various sectors can enhance climate dialogue and collaboration within their networks.

She noted that climate challenges touch diverse sectors and necessitate an interdisciplinary approach. By applying systems thinking and sustainability principles in their careers, individuals can make a lasting impact.

Currently, Sheikha Shamma is the President and CEO of Frontier25 and The Climate Tribe, as well as Chairwoman of Alliances for Global Sustainability, RESET MENA, and Aurora50.

Sheikha Shamma earned her Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership and an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Cambridge.
