Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, welcomed a team from Khalifa University of Science and Technology, led by President Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, to discuss the university’s recent strides in scientific research and technological advancements.

During their meeting, His Highness received an overview of research projects and innovative initiatives taking place within the three colleges and 14 specialized research centers at the university. The session featured insights from the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, the College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, and the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, along with the Cybersecurity Academy and the Khalifa University Center for Experiential Learning and Clinical Simulation.

The delegation presented the university’s newest innovations in satellite-based remote sensing and artificial intelligence, including machine learning systems developed in the Environmental and Geophysical Sciences (ENGEOS) Laboratory.

Researchers demonstrated how these cutting-edge technologies can detect and analyze underground features with remarkable precision, eliminating the need for on-site ground surveys. The technologies prove capable of identifying buried archaeological sites, hidden groundwater reserves, and geological structures.

Officials emphasized that these research methods have been successfully implemented throughout the UAE, including at UNESCO World Heritage archaeological locations in Al Ain.

The team further showcased the ENGEOS laboratory’s ground-penetrating radar network, comprising 20 specialized instruments set up across Khalifa University campuses. These systems facilitate field validation and scientific research for various environmental and geological examinations.

According to the university’s representatives, this technology is primed for broader deployment across the Middle East and North Africa, with potential applications in weather risk management, flood probability evaluation, and emergency preparedness planning.

The delegation expressed appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his welcoming demeanor and lauded the ongoing support from UAE leadership for scientific research, innovation, and higher education.

Khalifa University reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing research capabilities and building national and international collaborations to further the UAE’s ambition of becoming a global leader in advanced science, technology, and a knowledge-based economy.

Joining the meeting were Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Professor Bayan Sharif, Provost of Khalifa University, Samar Al Mansoori, Senior Vice-President for Support Services, and various faculty and administrative officials.
