Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Assesses Khalifa University’s Research Innovations

Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed a group from Khalifa University to discuss their latest advancements in research, innovation, and technology development. The delegation, led by Ebrahim Al Hajri, comprised senior university officials, researchers, and administrative leaders.

In the session, Sheikh Hazza received comprehensive updates on ongoing projects spanning the university’s three faculties and fourteen specialized research centers. Key updates were shared regarding advancements in engineering, computing, medical sciences, cybersecurity, and technological innovations. The conversations underscored the pivotal role of research in propelling the UAE’s aspiration for a knowledge-centric economy fueled by innovation.

Furthermore, the team showcased advancements in satellite remote sensing technologies and AI systems honed at the university’s Environmental and Geophysical Sciences Laboratory. Researchers highlighted the ability of these cutting-edge systems to detect underground structures, archaeology sites, groundwater sources, and geological formations without direct surveys, successfully applied in various UAE locations including historical sites in the Al Ain district.

University officials noted that AI and machine learning are significantly enhancing data evaluation and refining the precision of environmental and geological studies. The research cohort illustrated how AI can analyze complex satellite and radar data to boost scientific findings, climate assessments, and emergency planning. They mentioned the potential broader applications of these technologies across the MENA region.

Additionally, the delegation underscored the university’s extensive ground-penetrating radar network, which features 20 specialized instruments deployed across its campuses. These tools facilitate field research and aid in authenticating findings obtained through remote sensing technologies. Researchers pointed out their utility for flood prediction, weather risk evaluation, and disaster planning, which enhances public safety and infrastructure management.

The delegation expressed gratitude to Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed for his unwavering support for education, innovation, and research in the UAE. They affirmed the university’s pledge to forge international partnerships and boost research capabilities aligned with the national goal of emerging as a science and technology leader.
