In 2025, the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate reported a remarkable rise in the agricultural, livestock, and water sectors, showcasing Oman’s ongoing dedication to bolstering food security and sustainable development. These advancements stem from numerous initiatives and projects spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

These advancements dovetail with the ambitions of Oman Vision 2040, prioritizing increased food production, enhanced management of water resources, and robust support for farmers and livestock breeders within the region. This comprehensive strategy underscores the necessity of cultivating a resilient and self-sufficient agricultural landscape.

Dr. Abdulaziz Ali Al Mashikhi noted that an average agricultural output of 1.267 million tonnes was achieved over the last three years, reflecting steady growth and boosted productivity in various farming sectors.

Fruit cultivation marked a 7 percent rise, expanding to 841 acres and yielding 4,633 tonnes. Vegetable farming also played a pivotal role, covering 989 acres with an output exceeding 51,000 tonnes, a significant contribution to the regional agricultural landscape.

Date palm cultivation increased by 1.3 percent to reach 8,359 acres, with total production approximating 50,236 tonnes. The governorate secured fifth place nationally in date production and emerged as the leader in "Mabsali" date production, further emphasizing its agricultural significance.

Moreover, several initiatives were launched by authorities, including the Model Grape Farms Project in Ibra. This initiative aims to cultivate 100 acres of grapes, introduce globally competitive varieties, and enhance both economic returns and food and water security.

Officials conveyed that North Al Sharqiyah has attained full self-sufficiency in key items like dates, cucumbers, honey, and eggs. These milestones reflect the region’s escalating role in Oman’s national economy and its commitment to innovative, sustainable agricultural methodologies.
