Sharjah Launches QAND Brand Amidst Wheat Farming Initiatives

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, marked the fourth harvest event of the “Sabaa Sanabel” wheat farm in Mleiha. The event also featured the launch of the premium chocolate brand “QAND” along with the new “Mazraaty” digital platform designed to assist farmers and livestock breeders.

Commitment to Health-Conscious Food Production

In his remarks, Sheikh Sultan emphasized the critical role of organic and natural foods, cautioning against the health hazards posed by processed foods laden with chemicals. He called for a return to natural food sources for improved health outcomes.

Support for Local Farmers

The Ruler acknowledged the increasing acclaim for Sharjah’s agricultural products globally. He noted that 580 farmers have benefitted from the seed distribution initiative by the Department of Agriculture and Livestock.

He promised ongoing governmental assistance in areas such as land management, soil enhancement, and rehabilitating previously unproductive land.

Nano Clay for Agricultural Advancement

Sheikh Sultan highlighted the effectiveness of “nano clay” technology, which enhances soil quality and water retention, thereby boosting crop yields. This innovation is set to be extended to farmers in arid regions.

Innovative Solutions for Farming Challenges

To alleviate farming costs, multiple initiatives are being rolled out, including advanced drip irrigation in Kalba and Al Madina Lake, supplemented by government aid for electricity costs. Marketing strategies essential to the promotion of healthy agricultural products were also underscored.

Growth Strategy for Wheat Production

Sheikh Sultan encouraged more farmers in the UAE to engage with the wheat initiative, announcing plans to create a new wheat farm aimed at doubling production and reaching international markets.

Building a Comprehensive Food Security Framework

He emphasized that Sharjah is dedicated to creating a holistic agricultural ecosystem, comprising wheat farming, dairy, poultry projects, and fruit and vegetable cultivation, ensuring a supply of natural food for all.

Introduction of the Mazraaty Platform

The launch of the “Mazraaty” digital platform will enable farmers to access government services conveniently, employing technologies like thermal imaging for crop monitoring.

QAND Chocolate Brand Debuts

The luxury “QAND” chocolate brand was introduced by the Ruler, utilizing organic “Iktifa” ingredients, aiming to showcase Emirati culture worldwide while promoting natural products.

Advancements in Agricultural Research

The occasion featured leading-edge research, including wheat enhancement projects at the UAE’s inaugural biotechnology lab, with university students presenting studies on nano clay and sustainable farming.

Engaging Youth and Community

Students and young innovators displayed their projects, such as a smart robot aimed at combating desertification. Initiatives like “Baba Sultan Healthy Food” are now being implemented in 57 institutions to encourage healthy eating among the youth.

Technological Harvesting Innovations

Modern machinery was utilized for the wheat harvest, illustrating Sharjah’s advancements in smart agricultural practices through efficient cutting and separations.

Sheikh Sultan recognized strategic partners for their contributions to the successful agricultural season, concluding the event with cultural showcases and a special tribute from over 2,000 students acknowledging his dedication to food security and sustainable agriculture.
