Selangor Eyes Incremental PPR Rental Adjustments

Post by : Shakul

The government of Selangor is contemplating a step-by-step increase in rental fees for the People’s Housing Project (PPR) to facilitate better upkeep and enhancements in the public housing sector.

Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, the chairman of the State Housing and Culture Committee, stated that this initiative follows Perumahan dan Hartanah Selangor Sdn Bhd's recent assumption of PPR housing management, under a collaboration with the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

According to Borhan, a revision of the current rental fee of RM124 is possible, but a final figure remains undecided pending further discussions with residents.

He noted that many of the PPR complexes necessitate immediate maintenance, including tasks like repainting, lift repairs, cleaning water tanks, and upgrades to shared communal facilities used by many residents.

The state has also secured RM2.3 million from the Housing and Local Government Ministry to fund one year of maintenance and management initiatives in these residential areas.

In conjunction with this, the new management approach will implement stricter oversight measures, including an access card system and regulated parking, aimed at boosting safety and organization within the complexes.

Moreover, the Selangor government is looking into allegations regarding tenants subletting their units to third parties, a practice officials label as inequitable to other eligible residents seeking assistance.

Borhan also announced that actions against illegal pig farming in Tanjung Sepat will commence starting July 1, following a six-month amnesty period for operators.
